The Reverend Luis Ramirez was born in Stillwater, OK and raised in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Luis is a graduate of the University of Houston Modern and Classical Languages Department at the College of Liberal Arts and Social Services. Luis has been at work in God’s ministries at St. Luke’s UMC, St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, Strawbridge UMC and First UMC of Humble over the past ten years. He has also taught conversational Spanish for the Houston Police Department, and Spanish and Fine Arts for Humble Independent School District Quest High School.
As a singer, Luis has enjoyed a local career at the University of Houston Moores School of Music Moores Opera Center, Kingwood College, The Kingwood Chorale and Chamber Orchestra, and numerous Houstion area churches including Disciples UMC, Kingwood UMC, John Wesley UMC and Westbury UMC. In the sacred oratorio genre, hos repertoire includes Handel’s Messiah, Dubois’ The Seven Last Words, Saning – Saens’ Christmas Oratorio, Beethoven’s Mass in C, Schubert’s Mass in G and Mozart’s Requiem in D minor.
As a Christian, Luis’ ministry has been mostly through music at the local congregation. Beyond the congregation, he is very active in Walk to Emmaus through the Houston North Emmaus Community and Kairos Prison Ministry International, Inc. at the Huntsville (Walls) Unit in Huntsville, TX. Through Rotary International, he has been involved in helping the missionary work of Fundacion Betania, headed by Father Marco Dessi and mostly known through the singing boys of Coro Getsemani and the Rotary International sponsored “Children of the Dump” initiative in Chinandega, Nigaragua.
Luis is currently working towards a Master of Divinity at Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology with the intent of becoming an ordained United Methodist Elder.
